Idina Menzel cast to play CC Bloom in Lifetime remake of ‘Beaches’

Idina Menzel will be starring in the remake of “Beaches.”  The hit film is getting a Lifetime Network made for television movie. The”Let It Go” hit maker Idina Menzel was cast in the role of CC Bloom. The role that was originally played in 1988 by Bette Midler. The rebooted film is scheduled to air sometime mid spring of 2017 according to reports.

“Beaches,” tells the story of two young girls who meet by chance on the Venice Boardwalk. The young girls soon become lifelong best friends. CC Bloom(Idina Menzel) is an aspiring singer looking to make it big.  After tragedy strikes CC puts her career on hold to help take care of her best friend Hilarie. Hilarie faces a major medical issue after she is diagnosed with viral cardiomyopathy requiring a heart transplant. Hilarie realizes that she will most likely die before she receives a heart, and asks CC to care for her young daughter.

It is a beautiful and warm tale about the ups and downs experienced by two women over a three-decade friendship. At this time the role of Hilarie has yet to be cast. The film remake will feature Menzel singing Bette Midler classics “Wind Beneath My Wings” and “The Glory Of Love,” as well as several brand new songs.

The “Beaches” remake announcement comes just one week after the 1988 film director Garry Marshall died at the age of 81. Marshall’s death was due to  complications from pneumonia. Reports reveal that Marshall had been in failing health for several weeks.

Idina Menzel first rose to fame in the role of Maureen Johnson in the  Broadway musical “Rent.” Her performance earned her a Tony Award nomination in 1996. But it was in 2013 that Menzel’s career really took off after she voiced the role of Elsa in the Disney mega-hit “Frozen.”

Idina was invited to perform her hit “Let It Go” at the 86th Academy Awards in March 2014, where the song won the Academy Award for Best Original Song. The event took an odd turn when John Travolta  bumbled her name beyond recognition during her introduction, incorrectly announcing her as Adele Dazeem. The mispronunciation of her name became a running joke for several weeks, mostly aimed at Travolta. Idina did announce that she was not angered by Travolta’s verbal blunder for which he apologized numerous times for.
