“Grease” is one of the most beloved movie musicals of all time, but does it actually have a dark undertone to it? A new fan theory claims that Sandy and Danny may have been dead all along. We’ll explain…

Dark ‘Grease’ Fan Theory Hits The Internet

According to the “Grease” fan theory which popped up on Reddit, the whole movie could basically be inside Sandy’s dream as she drowns in the ocean. Remember in the song “Summer Nights,” when Danny sings the line, “Saved her life, she nearly drowned?” Well, the theory is based around that.

The theorist claims, “Everything that happens in the last scene is just a little TOO perfect . . . Danny and Sandy are back together despite everything, Rizzo SUDDENLY isn’t pregnant AND Kenickie suddenly decides that he actually loves her, the geeky kid gets onto the sports team, EVERYTHING is suddenly okay, just the way that sweet, innocent Sandy would have wanted it to be.”

Meanwhile, the theory also claims that the end of the movie where Danny and Sandy jump into the convertible and it goes flying off is actually a metaphor for Sandy dying and going to Heaven. Another fan theory claims that the movie is actually Danny’s dream as he dies after failing to save Sandy from drowning. Could Danny have been dreaming about what their life together would be like?

Even Celebrities Are Stunned By The ‘Grease’ Fan Theory

Oh internet, why do you always try to destroy the things we love? Even actress Sarah Michelle Gellar can’t believe the dark “Grease” fan theory.  SMG posted on her Facebook page that her mind was “blown” by the theory. Guess she’s never seen any of those crazy “Buffy The Vampire Slayer” fan theories, huh?

“Wait this has blown my mind- has anyone heard this theory about the movie #Grease At the end of the movie, Danny Zuko and Sandy Olson fly off in a red convertible as they wave goodbye to their friends on the solid ground below, leading to the conclusion that the flying car was the final result of Sandy’s fantasy. (As in she is dead)
During the song “Summer Nights,” Danny and Sandy recount how they first met and started a summer fling. The line, “I saved her life, she nearly drowned,” suggests that Sandy actually did drown and the whole movie is an elaborate musical fantasy due to the lack of oxygen getting to her brain. The flying red convertible also suggests that Sandy is happily being whisked away to heaven at the end of the movie. Wait what?!?!”

All we have to say is that if “Grease” really was just Danny or Sandy’s dying dream then how do you explain “Grease 2?”
