Tom Petty Dead At 66: Fans Mourn Iconic Rocker’s Death

Tom Petty is dead at the age of 66. The legendary singer and songwriter died after being found unresponsive from cardiac arrest at his Malibu home on Sunday night. The music icon was taken to the hospital and put on life support, but no brain activity was found and life support was stopped.

Tom Petty rose to fame in the 1970’s with his band The Heartbreakers. The group climbed the charts with their hit singles like “Free Fallin’,” “American Girl,” “Breakdown,” “Listen To Your Heart,” “Don’t Do Me Like That,” “Last Dance With Mary Jane,” and many, many more.

News of Tom Petty’s death broken on Monday afternoon and fans immediately began to mourn the loss of the icon. Fans young and old had a soft spot in their hearts for Petty and his timeless music. Tom was beloved by millions, and recently finished up a long tour with The Heartbreakers, concluding the tour with a sold out show at the Hollywood Bowl last Monday night.

While on tour, Petty revealed that he believed the tour may be his last big one, saying that he and the band were beginning to age, and that he wanted to spend time with his family, especially his little granddaughter. “I’d like to see as much as I can,” he said of his life after touring. Sadly, it looks like the iconic rocker won’t get to fulfill that dream.

Tom Petty will undoubtedly be blaring on everyone’s phones, tables, computers, and in their cars today as fans say a final goodbye to a rock and roll legend.
