2014 ACM Entertainer of the Year winner George Strait

George Strait won Entertainer of the Year for 2014 at April 6th’s 2014 ACM Awards.

George Strait, 61,is planning on retiring in just a few short months, and given Straits huge fan base and popularity the win was not a complete surprise to country music fans.

“I’ve always said I have the best fans in the world,” Strait told the crowd. “I heard this was a fan-voted thing, so I rest my case.”

Country music singers could not have been happier than to see the country legend George Strait win the big award.

Strait first skyrocketed to success in 1981 with his first hit single “Unwound.”

In the 1980s, seven of Strait’s albums reached number one on the country charts. In the 2000s.

Among many of accomplishments throughout George Strait’s long career in music came many of prestigious awards for his hard work including, being named Artist of the Decade by the Academy of Country Music, being elected into the Country Music Hall of Fame, and won his first Grammy award for the album Troubadour.

George Strait was also named CMA’s Entertainer of the Year in 1989, 1990 and 2013, and ACM Entertainer of the Year in 1990 and 2014. He has been nominated for more CMA and ACM awards and has more wins in both categories than any other artist.

Strait broke Conway Twitty’s previous record in 2009 for the most number-one hits on Billboard’s Hot Country Songs chart when his 44 number one singles surpassed Twitty’s 40.
