After ‘Grease Live!’: Dirty Dancing, Rocky Horror & Hairspray Coming To TV

Sunday’s “Grease Live!” production had everyone talking, and singing along to their favorite musical numbers, and after “Peter Pan Live” and “The Wiz” TV is about to take on more classic film adaptations.

After ‘Grease’: Dirty Dancing, Rocky Horror, Hairspray Up Next

Grease Live!” was certainly a hit with fans, and those same fans can expect to see more of their favorite classic movies being adapted into made for TV specials in the very near future. Movies such as “Dirty Dancing,” “Hairspray,” and “The Rocky Horror Picture Show” are all coming to TV, and we’ve got the details!

‘Dirty Dancing’ TV Reboot To Star Abigail Breslin

Dirty Dancing — The 80’s classic movie starred Jennifer Grey and Patrick Swayze and Baby and Johnny, two very different people who fall in love while dancing together after a chance encounter.

The “Dirty Dancing” TV remake is still in pre-production and has already cast Debra Messing of “Will and Grace” fame as Baby’s mother. As for the role of Baby, Abigail Breslin (Scream Queens, Zombieland) has been cast in the iconic role.

‘Hairspray’ Gets New Life, Again

Hairspray — The classic musical which has already been done in movie form twice, once with Ricki Lake, and the second time around with Zac Efron, Michelle Pfeiffer, Christopher Walken, John Travolta, Brittany Snow, Amanda Bynes, Queen Latifah, James Marsden, and Nikki Blonsky, will also be getting the TV treatment.

No word on who will be playing any of the characters in the broadcast, but it will be live, much like Grease Live! and will air on NBC.

‘Rocky Horror Picture Show’ Rounds Out Cast

Rocky Horror Picture Show — This huge cult classic will air in the fall on Fox, but will not air live. The TV adaptation will star Victoria Justice as Janet and Ryan McCartan as Brad. Lavern Cox (Orange is The New Black) will play Dr. Frank-N-Furter, a role originally held by Tim Curry, who will narrate the reboot, and play the Criminologist.

Reeve Carney will portray the always creep Riff Raff, Staz Nair will play Rocky, Adam Lambert will takeover Meat Loaf’s role as rocker Eddie, which his fans are very excited about.

It looks like TV movie adaptions are the new big thing, so lets enjoy it while we can!
