Ahsoka: Who Is Ezra Bridger and Why Is He So Important?

With Star Wars: Ahsoka’s first two episodes airing Tuesday night, fans are left with some important questions about the characters in this show. Fans who are new to the Star Wars franchise may be confused about who some of these characters being name-dropped are. To be more specific, who exactly is Ezra Bridger? What do you need to know before watching Ahsoka? Hollywood News Daily has you covered. 

To answer the question of who Ezra Bridger is, we have to go back to the animated series Star Wars: Rebels. Ezra is an orphaned child living a rough life on the planet Lothal. Ezra steals from the Galactic Empire to survive and little did he know that would be his gateway to an extraordinary life. After being found by a former Jedi Padawan Kanan Jarrus, Ezra joined his small band of Rebel fighters. Known as the Specter Cell, this rag-tag group of freedom fighters would play a big role in the years leading up to the Galactic Civil War. 

Under the training of Kanon Jarrus Ezra would grow into a powerful Jedi. Bridger would face many dangerous dark side users including the Sith Lord Darth Vader. While that “fight” was mostly Ezra running away the two force users did in fact exchange some blows. If it was not for Ahsoka Tano, Lord Vader would have most definitely killed the young Jedi. 

Vader would not be the only high-level enemy Ezra Bridger would face. The Imperial Grand Admiral named Thrawn would prove to be a great challenge for the Specter Cell. After losing his master in the fight against the Empire, Ezra devised a plan to take out Thrawn. Unfortunately, Ezra would also be lost in the process. After using his connection to all living creatures through the force, Bridger would sneak on board Thrawn’s flagship. 

Using a group of space whales called Purrgil, Ezra would blast what remains of Thrawn’s ship into hyperspace using the Purrgil’s powers. Blasting the ship and himself into the unknown regions of the Star Wars galaxy Ezra Bridger and Grand Admiral Thrawn were both considered missing. 

Now, with Grand Admiral Thrawn making his live-action debut, where is Ezra Bridger? It seems as though that will be one of the driving plot points in the Ahsoka series. Stopping the return of Thrawn and finding the lost Jedi Ezra. Star Wars has always been a spider web of storytelling. Everything is connected somehow. Much like how the force connects all life.
