R.I.P. Snape. Alan Rickman, who most famously played Severus Snape in the “Harry Potter” series has died. Rickman was confirmed dead on Thursday morning after losing his battle with cancer.

According to Us Weekly, Alan Rickman has been battling cancer privately, so many fans were shocked to hear the news of his passing at age 69.
Despite his most famous role as Snape in the 8 “Harry Potter” films, Alan Rickman had more than 68 movie and TV credits under his belt. The actor, who appeared in movies such as “Die Hard” and “Love Actually,” won an Emmy in 1996 and 1997 for his performance in the made for TV movie “Rasputin.”
In 2012, Alan Rickman wed his love of more than 50 years, Rima Horton, but did not confirm the marriage until 2015. He later said that after they got married the couple walked across the Brooklyn bridge and ate lunch.

Before his death, Rickman completed the film “Alice Through The Looking Glass,” the sequel to 2010’s “Alice in Wonderland,” where he voiced the Blue Caterpillar.
