And Just Like That Gives Stanford A Happy Ending After Willie Garson’s Death

And Just Like That Stanford Sex And The City Wille Garson

“And Just Like That” finally gave fans some closure regarding Stanford Blatch. The fan-favorite “Sex and The City” character got his happy ending during Season 2 of the series. Fans will remember that actor Willie Garson tragically died from cancer in 2021 after filming several episodes of the show. The series then wrote out Stanford’s character by sending him on a work excursion to Japan. He also ended his relationship with his husband, Anthony.

Meanwhile, Stanford had been scarcely talked about since his exit. However, as Season 2 of “And Just Like That” rolled on, there was a huge Stanford reveal. Carrie invited Anthony over to her apartment so that she could give him an update on Stanny. She told him that Stanford had become a monk, even reading an excerpt of a heartfelt letter from the character. A photo of Stanford at the monastery was shown. It was also revealed that he was truly at peace with his life.

And Just Like That turned Stanford into a monk

Stanford wrote in his letter to Carrie that he wanted Anthony to have all of his possessions, as well as their home. In return, Anthony found a way to move on from the marriage, even being happy for his former husband. Carrie and Anthony toasted Stanford in a moment that felt like a memorial to Willie Garson.

“Ever since Willie died and what we had to do last year was explain the loss of our really wonderful friend and actor, Willie Garson playing Stanford Blatch,” showrunner Michael Patrick King said on And Just Like That… The Writers Room podcast. “I wanted to somehow pay tribute to Willie and put Stanford someplace where it was golden and filled with light because I hope Willie’s someplace that’s golden and filled with light,” King continued. “And it was poetic and it’s very emotional.”

Sarah Jessica Parker’s nod to the late Willie Garson

In the scene where Carrie and Anthony toast Stanford, actress Sarah Jessica Parker is seen downing her drink in one large gulp. The “And Just Like That” moment wasn’t scripted. Instead, King says that Parker made that move on her own. However, he did admit that it felt like a testament to Parker’s real-life friendship with Garson. “It says so much to me about how big that toast is for her, to Stanford and I think Willie,” King said.

Now that the beloved “Sex and The City” character has been given a happy ending, fans can move forward knowing that Willie Garson’s character is in a good place. Of course, Stanford Blatch is still in the hearts of his loved ones. Check back with Hollywood News Daily for more news and updates on “And Just Like That” as they come in.
