With the first three episodes of Andor Season 2 officially streaming on Disney+, fans have been pleasantly surprised by Lucasfilm bringing back an iconic Imperial fighter from a beloved video game. The Tie Avenger is featured prominently in the season’s first three episodes as a top-of-the-line prototype star fighter created by Sienar Fleet Systems. This is the company responsible for the Imperial Tie Fighter as well as some of its other variants. This ship first appeared in canon in the video game from 1994, called Star Wars: Tie Fighter.
According to SuperHeroHype, the first episode of Andor Season 2 opened with Cassian Andor stealing the Tie Avenger from Imperial Test Facility 73 on the planet Sienar. It has been about one year since the events of Andor Season 1, and the year is currently 4 BBY (Before the Battle of Yavin). With the aid of a technician named Niya, Cassian is able to steal the fighter as Niya gets away cleanly. She will most likely defect to the Rebel Alliance. An issue the Empire never really had to deal with until the first full-power firing of the Death Star at the planet Alderaan.
Andor Season 2 Sees the Return of the Tie Avenger From Star Wars: Tie Fighter
However, Cassian’s mission would quickly go wrong. The Tie Avenger is not the ship he was trained to fly and steal. Although Andor gets away, his troubles are far from over. However, the appearance of the Tie Avenger has sent fans into a frenzy online. “It’s been my favorite since the video game,” says one fan via the YouTube comment section.
Although that is not where it stops. Many fans are extremely happy to be seeing such a great job being done with the design of the Tie Avenger. They would also take to the comment section to voice their opinions.
“The Tie Avenger is amazing,” said one.
“The Rebels wouldn’t have a chance against that thing,” wrote another.
Finally, another wrote, “The controls kind of look like the Umbaran fighters from the Clone Wars.“
It seems many fans are completely thrilled to have the Tie Avenger back in canon, where it belongs.
Andor Season 2 has been a massive hit so far. Tony Gilroy has done a fantastic job making Star Wars fans happy once more. As the season continues, it’s likely that most fans of this franchise can not wait to see what happens next. Andor’s more dark and gritty vibes have seemingly breathed new life into Star Wars.
