Apex fans hoping to celebrate the 4th Of July with a gaming marathon in Kings Canyon were forced to find entertainment elsewhere as Apex Legends was hacked and was unplayable on all platforms.

According to We Got This Covered, “The no-doubt-intentionally-timed hostile takeover of the battle royale’s playlists took place yesterday, replacing the usual main menu options with one simple message: “save Titanfall.” While no individual has come forward to claim responsibility for the attack, text inserted into the game redirected users to a website using the very same slogan which, while seemingly unaffiliated with the hacker(s), exists to shine a light on the current plight being faced by players of the first-person shooter”.

For those of you who are uninformed, Respawn’s first installment of the Titanfall series has been said to be in an unplayable state due to the game’s less than efficient anti-cheat system. Publisher EA has been accused multiple times of selling a faulty product after being made repeatedly aware of the game’s issues and not fixing them.

Some Apex Legends fans aren’t happy

After a total downtime of 10 hours, Respawn Entertainment has finally fixed the issue but the lead developer for Apex Legends is reportedly getting a lot of backlash for the problem as well as the absurd amount of cheaters running wild in Apex Legends. Respawn has promised the Apex community that they are doing everything they can to eliminate the amount of cheating by promising to hire more staff to update their anti-cheat software but we will see how they follow through on those promises.

With the new competitive season right around the corner now would be the perfect time to really crack down on these cheaters to level the playing field as the fan base continues to grind the game in hopes of ranking even higher. It seems as though Respawn is under a great deal of pressure to fix these issues as Apex fans are getting tired of dying to people who are not better at the game than them but instead are just flat-out cheating.

Before the hacking incident, Respawn Entertainment seemed to have struck gold with their recent update which brought back the original map and a fan favorite location in Skull Town. They also gave the legend Revenant a buff which lets him climb walls and buildings almost endlessly. They also gave the legend his very own heirloom. Whatever way you look at things Apex developers may need to do something about the hacking before it is too late.
