The Cleveland Cavaliers were by far the most surprising team in the NBA last season notching 44 wins and their first winning season without LeBron James since he left for the Los Angeles Lakers. The Cavaliers were on the right track in their rebuild and were already playoff contenders last season.

Now with the crazy offseason coming to an end, the Cavaliers have locked down their all-star point guard Darius Garland on a max extension and made the biggest trade of this offseason by getting Donovan Mitchell.

With a young core of Mitchell, Garland, Mobley, Allen, and Orkoro as well as a deep bench with Rubio, Osman, and LeVert are the Cleveland Cavaliers Finals contenders once again? Last year the Cavaliers had two first-time all-stars in Darius Garland and Jarrett Allen.

Can Mitchell push the Cavaliers even farther?

Now with the addition of Mitchell, they have at least three all-stars and if Mobley has another great year they could even have four! It is a bold statement to say that the Cavaliers, a team who has not made the playoffs without Lebron James since 1998 are true NBA Finals contenders but either this year or the next few years many believe that the Cleveland Cavaliers could be back on the NBA’s biggest stage, the NBA Finals.

The Cavaliers have been to the finals many times with LeBron James once in 2007, and then four times in a row spanning from 2015 to 2018. The Cavs won in 2016 which was their first championship and they are the only team to come back from being down three games to one in the NBA Finals. The Eastern Conference is looking tough this year with a lot of talented players, but last year’s Cavaliers proved they could run with any team and they have only gotten better since then.

The Cleveland Cavaliers if they stay healthy could make it to the Eastern Conference Finals and after that, it all comes down to what team wants it more. If The Cavaliers were to make the Finals this season it would be one of the fastest rebuilds in NBA history as it has not been that many years since LeBron James departed for Los Angeles.

How far will they go?

It will be very interesting to see how far the Cleveland Cavaliers will go this coming season with the addition of three-time all-star guard Donovan Mitchell as well as the other young Cavaliers. Could this be their year?
