An Arizona man named Daniel Lanks was arrested after he was accused of doing something truly despicable. Lanks was said to be walking down the street when he passed a polite fellow citizen who gave him a greeting. However, instead of reciprocating the kindness, Lanks allegedly attacked the passerby and changed the person’s life forever.
Law and Crime reports that Daniel Lanks allegedly attacked a fellow Phoenix, Arizona resident after the victim walked by and asked him how he was doing. After the two passed, the victim claims that Lanks then grabbed him from behind and ripped the stranger’s eye out of the socket. The victim also reportedly suffered a broken jaw in the attack.
“The victim stated that during this incident he was in fear for his life and safety, believing that Daniel could have killed him,” police allege in court documents obtained by KSAZ. “The attack was completely unprovoked, and he did not threaten Daniel, challenge him, and did not have any form of weapons to be perceived as a threat.”

The victim now claims that the loss of his right eye and his fractured jaw have impacted his quality of life forever. He’s unsure if he’ll be able to perform several basic life skills or even work again following the brutal attack.
To make matters worse, the Arizona man had only just been released from police custody one week prior. Lanks had allegedly been charged with another count of aggravated assault on another victim, as well as organizing the theft of a retail store a month prior.
“This is horrifying,” one person commented on the story.
According to Carolina Eye Prosthetics, it can take 6-8 weeks to heal after surgery following the loss of an eye. Of course, it’s not over from there. There is much to do to adjust to a new reality, including post-surgical checkups, care of the wound, and options about prosthetics moving forward. Unfortunately, the Arizna victim will now be dealing with this as he recovers from the attack. Meanwhile, Daniel Lanks was arrested and booked on felony aggravated assault charges. He is currently being held on a $500,000 bond.
