TV icon and journalist Barbara Walters is reportedly being sheltered from all of the tragic news that is 2020. OK! reports that sources close to Barbara Walters revealed that due to her fragile health condition family and caregivers believe it is in Walters’ best interest to be kept in the dark about today’s current events.
Barbara Walters,90, has not been seen publicly for more than four years now. According to those closest to Walters the TV legend’s health continues in rapid decline.
As previously reported, in 2019 Barbara was extremely frail and spends most of her days bedridden. Walters suffers from advanced dementia. Those closest to Walters reveal Barbara rarely leaves her bed and fails to recognize even her closest friends and family members.
The latest update states that reveal that those caring for Barbara Walters believe it best to shelter the once vibrant television personality from the dark and tragic news of 2020. They feel if Barbara was to comprehend the dreary news it would cause her to sink deeper into her illness, or worse.
That being said it has been reported that Barbara is unaware of the death of her longtime friend Regis Philbin. They believe the news of friends who have passed this year atop of the current state of the country due to the coronavirus pandemic would be too much for Walters to handle in her current fragile state.
Not much has been reported on Walters in the past four years, even the icon’s social media accounts remain untouched since 2017. The last news update came in late 2019 from an unnamed source who stated,
“Sadly, her dementia has been getting worse. [Her] caretakers give her the opportunity to make everyday decisions, but more often than not she’ll stare at them blankly.”
Walters- who created and co-hosted the popular daytime talk show “The View” retired from the show in 2014. In 2016 it was reported that Barbara Walters had been suffering from numerous health issues including heart problems, a broken hip, and dementia along with all the natural aches and pains that come with being at an advanced age.
