Walters, whose retirement announcement came out in 2013, remains under constant care. Those closest to Barbara reveal that the star remains extremely frail. The TV icon now spends most of her time bedridden.

Most days, Barbara’s dementia causes her to fail at recognizing even her closest friends and family members. Once a busy socialite, Walters spent her evenings on the town attending A-List parties. Sadly, her health issues took their toll, leaving Barbara out of the public eye since 2016.

Walters recently hit news headlines after singer Ricky Martin recently claims he suffers from ‘PTSD’ from a 2000 interview with Barbara.

Martin tells USA Today he suffers from lasting effects following an interview where Walters keeps urging him to address his sexuality.

Walters continuously pushed Martin to “stop these rumors” and define his sexuality. “You could say, ‘Yes I am gay or no I’m not,'” the then-ABC anchor states. Martin replies, “Barbara, for some reason, I just don’t feel like it.”

Martin reveals that Walters finally gave up. Still, it leaves him feeling violated because, at the time, he was ‘not ready to come out.” The singer claims that he continues to suffer from “PTSD.”

Barbara Walters Makes Amends

Ricky Martin later in 2010 came out publicly. This is the same year Barbara Walters expresses regret for her “inappropriate” conduct during their interview.

“In 2000, I was pushing Ricky Martin very hard to admit if he was gay or not. However, the way he kept refusing to do it made everyone decide that he was,” Walters told The Toronto Star in 2010. “A lot of people say that destroyed his career. When I think back on it now, I feel it was an inappropriate question.”
