Beetlejuice 2 is one of the most highly anticipated sequels of all time. Fans of the original movie have been eagerly awaiting any news about a new film for years. Now, it seems that there has been an exciting new development. The Hollywood Reporter claims that Jenna Ortega is close to being cast in the sequel.
Fans know Ortega as the newest scream queen in Hollywood. She’s starred on shows like You and even stars in the titular role on Netflix’s Wednesday. In addition, she’s also horrified fans in two Scream franchise movies. While the original Beetlejuice showcased the gothic talents of actress Winona Ryder, Ortega already has a goth reputation of her own. This appears to make her a perfect fit for the anticipated sequel.
Will Jenna Ortega star in Beetlejuice 2?
The original film also starred Michael Keaton as Beetlejuice, and he’ll be back as the lead character again this time around. Meanwhile, Tim Burton is also attached to the sequel. Ortega and Burton already have a working relationship as he’s behind Wednesday as well.
For her part, Jenna Ortega has reportedly admitted to having dreams about Beetlejuice as a child. She also knows what to expect when it comes to Tim Burton. While speaking about working with the famed director in the past, Ortega said, “It’s been quite an insane experience. I’ve been lucky enough to get the opportunity to work with an iconic director who just so happens to be one of the sweetest directors I’ve worked with, and also the most detail-oriented.”
Michael Keaton will return to Beetlejuice
There is no confirmation about what Beetlejuice 2 will be about. Or if any of the original stars like Catherine O’Hara, Geena Davis, Alec Baldwin, or Winona Ryder will return for cameos. However, the movie is sure to be one of the biggest when it’s finally released. The Beetlejuice franchise has become a cult classic among lifelong fans of the movie and the short-lived cartoon.
Jenna Ortega seems to be carving out quite a name for herself when it comes to horror and all things spooky. Of course, she’s an obvious choice for Beetlejuice 2 and she’ll likely bring her budding fanbase with her.
