Bucks & Hawks To Begin Unexpected Conference Finals Matchup

Giannis Antetokounmpo on the court.

After the Milwaukee Bucks barely escaped their matchup with the superteam Brooklyn Nets with a Game 7 win they look ahead to the Eastern Conference Finals as they are set to play the Atlanta Hawks after their game 7 win over Philly.

According to Brew Hoop,  “The Bucks and Hawks are merely acquaintances, as far as NBA matchups go. There is very little tying these two teams together, making storylines difficult to manufacture. They don’t have a storied playoff history or even recent seasons where the two were jockeying for playoff positioning. Yes, Mike Budenholzer was a successful head coach for some great Hawks teams but his tenure ended four years ago and Atlanta has fully rebuilt since then”.

The Bucks are a very experienced playoff team much more than the Hawks who have not really been a threat to a championship-caliber team for quite some time now.

Giannis Antetokounmpo has been waiting for his chance to compete for a championship for years now and this could very well be his only chance for a while. Atlanta has very little experience and is also led by a player who has no playoff experience as this is Trae Young’s first playoff appearance.

Bucks and Hawks set for interesting series

Matchup wise it just seems Milwaukee may have the upper hand over the Hawks with the Bucks being so much bigger than them. Jrue Holiday has height over Trae Young and is also a great defender so if he plays Trae Young right that tasks away Atlanta’s first and best option. Antetokounmpo has the size advantage on almost anyone in the NBA and the Hawks just don’t have the personnel to stop him from attacking the rim.

From the start, it appears like it will be Milwaukee who will come out on top and move on to the 2021 NBA finals but we will not know until the series is over. It’s likely that 76ers’ fans thought the same thing after being matched with the Hawks in the semifinals.

Fans should fully expect Antetokounmpo to come out swinging in Game 1. Giannis should be getting to the basket whenever he wants to and he is going to need to hit his free throws as he did in the last few minutes of Game 7 vs the Nets.

All in all, this should be a good series to watch and an exciting experience for both fanbases who have not won a championship for a long time. But right now all they can do is wait to see what team will get a chance to represent the Eastern Conference and play for an NBA championship.
