California Shopper Slammed for Humiliating Mom During Costco Return: ‘People Have No Shame’

Another day at Costco, with crowded aisles and customers waiting not-so-patiently in line. But one California shopper’s trip to the big-box giant took an unexpected turn when he spotted something he didn’t like. Before long, a simple return turned into an online debate about money, class, and minding your own business.

According to @j_man707’s TikTok clip filmed inside a California Costco, a woman was seen at the customer service desk with a pile of folded kids’ clothes and a cart packed with more items. The shopper recording the scene seemed less than thrilled, accusing her of returning years’ worth of used clothing and holding up the line. But this aggravated California didn’t hesitate to call her out online, turning what should’ve been a forgettable errand into a social media spectacle.

But instead of getting the applause he likely expected, the internet had something else to say. And most people weren’t siding with him. Viewers flooded the comments, calling out the man for punching down. Many defended the woman, arguing that she was simply taking advantage of Costco’s famously flexible return policy. After all, the store proudly promotes its “Risk-Free 100% Satisfaction Guarantee.” If the rules allow it, why not use them?

Plenty of people even called her move “smart budgeting,” reminding critics that she wasn’t scamming anyone, just using a policy the company created. Still, some warned that abuse of these generous return systems could eventually push retailers to tighten the rules for everyone.

Social Media Takes the Mom’s Side

While shoppers may love an easy refund, there’s a financial side to consider. Retailers reportedly lose hundreds of billions of dollars every year processing returns. A cost that doesn’t just vanish. Those losses can eventually show up in higher prices or stricter policies.

Some stores have already started cutting back, limiting return windows, or tracking frequent returners through memberships. Costco itself admits that it can revoke a customer’s membership at any time, though it doesn’t state exactly how many returns are too many.

Still, before jumping on the judgment train, maybe take a step back. This is a mom trying to make ends meet in an economy where groceries cost more than ever and rent isn’t getting cheaper. If she’s managing to stretch her dollar by returning outgrown clothes. She’s not the villain here. She’s surviving. Parenting is expensive, and anyone balancing bills, kids, and chaos deserves a little grace.

Calm down bro, I know you wish you thought of this,” one follower snaps back.

People have no shame and no integrity,” another writes.

You’re mad at the wrong people! These greedy corporations rip us all off every day, so good on her” one more writes.

“All I see is a mum trying to survive in this economy with her kids,” a fourth adds.

At the end of the day, this California Costco showdown says more about people’s quick tempers than store policies. One mom tried to get a little money back. One man got a little too nosy. Maybe next time, instead of filming strangers in the return line. We should all just grab a free sample and relax. Costco drama is fun to watch, until it’s your turn at the counter.
