With the 2021 NBA Draft tomorrow the Cleveland Cavaliers hold the 3rd overall pick and it seems like the seven-footer Evan Mobley is a lock for that spot.

Mobley has stated many times he is most comfortable playing alongside another big man and that would be Jarrett Allen. That leaves the Cavs in an awkward spot with veteran Kevin Love as he would have to be either traded or moved to the bench.

Recent rumors state that the Cleveland Cavaliers are very determined to trade Love even if they have to add young guard Collin Sexton to the deal.

Cleveland has been trying to part ways with Love for a while now and this would go back to shortly after they gave the five-time all-star a 4 year 4120 million contract extension.

According to Cavaliers Nation, “Now, Love and the Cavs are stuck. The declining veteran averaged 12.2 points, 7.4 rebounds and 2.5 assists per game last season”.  Another problem the Cavs organization has been running into is Love’s contract. No team wants to take a contract that big for a player who is on the decline and does not have a lot to offer their organization.

Is Kevin Love on the move?

The Cavs are in a delicate situation where they would have to add a good young player to a possible Kevin Love deal to balance out his huge contract, and for a team who is in the middle of a rebuild, this could be a big blow. The name of the player that comes to mind when adding a young talent alongside Love is Collin Sexton.

Sexton is a natural scorer and plays with a lot of energy. He would be great for any team to have either as a sixth man or in the starting lineup. Collin Sexton last year averaged 24.3 points per game, 4.4 assists per game,  and 3.1 rebounds per game. Those are very solid numbers for a player who was only in his third year.

Sexton’s name has been swirling in trade rumors for about a month now and nothing has come of it so far but it would not be a surprise if on draft night or at the deadline love and sexton are shipped off in a package together. But for right now it is only speculation and nothing could come to fruition. As of now the Cavs are very focused on the draft and picking the best prospect available. It will be very interesting to see how the Kevin Love situation is resolved but we have to wait for now.
