Cavs Provide A Glimpse Of How They Will Develop Evan Mobley

The Cleveland Cavaliers drafted the seven-foot center Evan Mobley with the third overall pick in the 2021 NBA Draft out of UNC. After that Mobley shipped out to Cleveland and then to Las Vegas for the NBA summer league where he has currently played two games.

In those two games, Evan Mobley has scored in double figures and had at least 3 assists and 4 rebounds. Many fans think that his rebounding numbers are too low but the Cavs’ organization feels quite different.

With the other seven-footer in the starting line up Jarrett Allen, Mobley will not need to be the rebounding machine he was in college. Instead, He can focus more on his scoring and most importantly his passing game. Mobley’s passing and his scoring were shown in his second summer league game where he played a great game.

Fans excited to see Evan Mobley on the court

“The first play of the game was designed for Mobley. Coming across the lane, he set up on the left block (close enough to his favorite spot) against No. 8 pick Franz Wagner. Mobley sealed, took the entry pass, quickly surveyed the defense, dribbled once, shoulder-faked left, went right and buried a feathery fadeaway jumper for Cleveland’s first points,” reports  Cleveland.com.

It is clear now that the Cleveland Cavaliers see Evan Mobley as a very versatile player that can set up his teammates and score that ball at will. Cavaliers General Manager Koby Altman has stated many times that good things happen when Mobley has the ball in his hands, and Mobley proved that statement correct in his last game.

Cleveland fans should be very excited about this young man as he will only get better when you add Jarrett Allen, Collin Sexton, and Darius Garland around him. The Cavs could make a big leap this season and maybe even grab the 8th seed in the east.

It will be very interesting to see how Evan Mobley grows as a player around the other young players on the Cavs. Darius Garland has come out and said that he feels it is his responsibility to help Evan Mobley transition to NBA-level basketball. Mobley should feel very lucky that he has teammates like Garland and Allen around him to help him feel more at home in Cleveland and in the NBA. Evan Mobley is full of potential and it is up to the Cavs organization to be able to develop his game and build a winning franchise around him.
