The Cleveland Cavaliers are right in the middle of a serious rebuild after the departure of LeBron James after the 2018 season. Currently, the Cavs have a great young core and recently added the third overall pick in the 2021 NBA Draft Evan Mobley. But now Cleveland is on the hunt for another guard.
To be specific they are looking to add some length in their backcourt as well as some defense. It has been reported that the Cleveland Cavaliers are interested in Chicago Bulls’ player Denzel Valentine to help them out in those areas.
Valentine would not be the flashiest addition but he could offer Cleveland some nice depth of the bench as well as some defense. “The 27-year-old has struggled to post efficient shooting clips throughout his NBA career. He’s a lifetime 39.4 percent shooter in the NBA. In the 2020-21 season, he averaged 6.5 points, 3.2 rebounds and 1.7 assists per game while shooting 37.3 percent from the field and 33.1 percent from deep. Health has also been an issue at times. For instance, he played in just 36 games in the 2019-20 season. He also missed the entire 2018-19 season,” reports Cavaliers Nation.
Are the Cavs looking to add depth to their bench?
Denzel Valentine will not find himself playing a big role on any team if he does not fix his shooting woes and get healthy. Cleveland is trying to make a playoff push as a seven or eight seed this year and they will need healthy and efficient players to get them there.
Many NBA insiders are saying that Valentine would not be a good fit in Cleveland due to his health and inconsistency. However, if a trade is pulled off for the Chicago Bull he would most likely come off the bench and try to make an impact. It will be very interesting to see if the Cavs pull the trigger on this trade and if so who they give up for Valentine.
As of right now, no further news has surfaced about trader talks between the Chicago Bulls and the Cleveland Cavaliers but that does not mean that they aren’t talking as I speak. Either way, it is an exciting time to be a Cavs fan as their young core is great and they have the opportunity to make a lot of noise in the league in the near future. Hopefully, the Cavs can pull their act together and make a playoff push after years of being a lottery team.
