Actress Charlize Theron has opened up with her fans that her daughter Jackson, 7, is transgender. Theron spoke out for the first time publicly on April 20, according to Yahoo News that Jackson, who was assigned male at birth was actually a girl.
Charlize Theron, 43, stated that she first learned the news four years ago, when Jackson opened up to her at the age of three that she was “not a boy.”
“Yes, I thought she was a boy, too. Until she looked at me when she was three years old and said, ‘I am not a boy!’”
“So there you go! I have two beautiful daughters who, just like any parent, I want to protect and I want to see thrive,” the “Atomic Blonde” star said. “They were born who they are and exactly where in the world both of them get to find themselves as they grow up, and who they want to be, is not for me to decide.”
Theron, the mother of two stated that she had adopted both of her children, Jackson in 2012 and her second daughter, August, in 2015 and that it is her job as a parent to love her children and do her very best to provide for them in every aspect of their lives “everything they need in
order to be what they want to be,” she added, “and I will do everything in my power for my kids to have that right and to be protected within that.”
The award-winning actress credits her loving and accepting nature to her mother. “I was taught by my mom that you have to speak up; you have to be able to know that, when this life is over, you’ll have lived the truth you’re comfortable with, and that nothing negative can come from that.”
Theron has been an openly vocal LGBTQ activist for nearly two decades. Back in 2009 during an appearance on the daytime hit talk show on “The View” she announced that she and then-boyfriend Stuart Townsend wouldn’t get married until everyone in the United States had a right to
marry.
The “Atomic Blonde” star usually steers clear of sharing too many private family details, especially when it comes to her children’s lives and prefers to keep a low profile for not only their safety but to attempt to keep a sense of normality far from her celebrity profile.
Despite her quest for “family-life” privacy, Charlize Theron is often asked about her children and speaks openly about parenting and her choices for raising an adopted child versus her own biological.
