Cheryl Burke nearly had the gig as “The Bachelorette.” However, it all fell through. Fans heard rumors that the former “Dancing With The Stars” pro may be starring on the reality dating show. However, they never understood why nothing came of it. Now, Burke is opening up about what really happened.
Cheryl Burke confronts Chris Harrison about her lost opportunity to be The Bachelorette
Recently, Cheryl Burke confronted Chris Harrison during his podcast “The Most Dramatic Podcast Ever.” The dancer told Harrison that she was told he was the reason she wasn’t cast as “The Bachelorette.” Burke told the former ABC TV host that producers informed her she wasn’t being cast as the “Bachelorette” lead because Harrison called her a “sloppy drunk.”
“I heard you blocked that. Did you not?” Burke asked Harrison. “No. They put that on me,” he replied. “Yeah, like I have that much power, like I have the power to decide who the Bachelor [or] Bachelorette is.” Cheryl admitted that the producers blamed it all on Chris, and even cited her previous issues with alcohol as the reason the host didn’t want her as the franchise’s leading lady.
Cheryl was previously married to actor Matthew Lawrence
Burke has expressed interest in becoming “The Bachelorette” for years. In 2012, she told People that she’d jump at the chance to find love on the show. “My dating record hasn’t been great the past couple of years so if I have a chance to go on [The Bachelorette] I will,” she admitted. “I’m getting old, you know, so it’s something of interest to me.”
Previously, Cheryl Burke was married to actor Matthew Lawrence. The couple were together for three years before calling it quits. Lawrence has since begun dating TLC singer Rozanda “Chilli” Thomas. Meanwhile, Burke has been working on herself, revealing that she’s sober and doing well.
Cheryl Burke has left Dancing With The Stars behind
Although Cheryl Burke is one of the most well-known pro dancers on “Dancing With The Stars,” she opted to leave the gig behind after Season 31. Burke decided to retire from the show after winning two Mirror Ball trophies. That same year, head “DWTS” judge Len Goodman also retired. A few months later he passed away.
During Season 32 of “Dancing With The Stars” the show paid tribute to the late judge. However, Cheryl Burke was not invited back to take part in the tribute. The dancer also revealed that the show passed her over for a judging and co-host job as well.
