Cleveland Browns: CLE Releases DT Perrion Winfrey

The Cleveland Browns have finally had it with their troublesome DT Perrion Winfrey. Cleveland finally released Winfrey on Wednesday morning after a video surfaced on Instagram of a woman saying Perrion threatened her with a firearm. The incident happened outside The 9 at East 9th and Euclid. Winfrey can also be heard in the video threatening to hit the woman and her friend. Saying “I will smack the —- out of both of you.” According to Cleveland.com

Troublesome Players

Cleveland had stuck by Winfrey in his last assault charges that were proven to be a mistake, but this was the final straw. In the woman’s video viewers can hear Winfrey yell “Give me that —-ing phone” right before threatening to hit both of them. “The woman wrote on her Instagram story that “Perrion Winfrey just chased us barefoot out of the nine and pointed his gun at me and put his hands on me. He stole both of my phones and drove off.” She then shows a bruise on her neck with an arrow pointing to it, and asks, is this what you stand for @ClevelandBrowns?

Alongside Winfrey’s brushes with the law, he has also been benched a few times by the Cleveland Browns due to maturity issues. That included Week 2 last season against the Jets. Until now, the Cleveland Browns believed he was worth the trouble. After Winfrey’s arrest in April, head coach Kevin Stefanski continues to have talks with his players about their off-the-field behavior.

“As you can imagine, we constantly talk to our players about making great decisions outside our building,” he said. “That will never change. It’s something that we will remind our guys now in the off-season program. I’ll remind them when the offseason program ends and we send everybody off for a brief respite before training camp. You’re constantly talking to your guys about being safe.”

Cleveland Is Ready To Rock

The release of Winfrey helps the Cleveland Browns narrow down a crowded position on the inside. Cleveland has plenty of options for DT with names like Dalvin Tomlinson, Jordan Elliot, Siaki Ika, Maurice Hurst, and Trysten Hill. The newcomer Za’Darius Smith will also play inside a considerable amount.

Perrion Winfrey had many issues off and on the field. This is something the Cleveland Browns can not afford to deal with right now as they are expecting a very productive season. Football is right around the corner and the Cleveland Browns are excited to make some noise this season!
