The Cleveland Browns have been one team to watch to sign DeAndre Hopkins. From Deshaun Watson going on record to say he wants him in CLE. To many big teams backing out of the race. It now seems that the Cleveland Browns may also be backing out of the D-Hop sweepstakes. Deshaun Watson still would like Hopkins in Cleveland, but it seems like the Browns have no plans to go out and get another big-name wide receiver. According to Mary Kay Cabot Via Twitter.
The keywords in that report are “for now’ as things can change in a hurry. Much like the situation, the Cleveland Browns were in while trying to trade for Deshaun Watson. It was said that the Browns were officially out of the running and then the next day a deal was made for the star QB. With no free agent visits from Hopkins planned for Cleveland this really is a long shot.
CLE Better Off Without Hopkins?
Even without DeAndre Hopkins Cleveland’s WR room is looking great! With Amari Cooper and Donovan Peoples-Jones leading the way for the Browns there is sure to be plenty of explosive plays. Watson is surrounded by weapons this season with Chubb in the backfield and Cooper/DPJ on his sides. It is all on him now to show that he still belongs and can still be an elite QB in the NFL.
Even with this new development, we can certainly not rule out The Cleveland Browns as a landing spot for D-Hop. His relationship with Deshaun Watson may just be enough to sway his decision and maybe even take less money. Watson has stated that they still talk all the time and are very good friends. The Cleveland Browns would be a great fit for Hopkins if he is serious about playing meaningful football. Hopkins could very well be able to help this Browns team compete for their first Super Bowl.
Still a chance!
Watson and Hopkins put up insane numbers together and that is just something nobody can deny. Hopkins may have lost a step or two with his age but the 30-year-old can still make big plays. It is not over until it is over for Cleveland and they will continue to try to better their roster for as long as they can. As long as Hopkins is still a free agent Cleveland is very much in play. It will be very interesting to see what happens and where he will finally sign after being released.
