The Cleveland Browns have fired DC Joe Woods after the team’s defense has been below average all year. Cleveland has had a rougher-than-normal last few seasons. From Baker Mayfield not fitting in, to the defense falling apart.

While Cleveland has seemingly found their new forever quarterback in Deshaun Watson, the offense was not the biggest concern this season. The Cleveland Browns’ defense was just flat-out bad this season. Joe woods’ decision-making on the coverages has let the entire team down as well as the fans.

Woods Has Been On His Way Out

Woods had been the Dc under head coach Kevin Stefanski since 2020. Joe Woods’ first season with the team the Cleveland Browns went to the playoffs for the first time since 2002. They also won their first postseason game in 26 years. Unfortunately, now the Cleveland Browns’ slow defense starts were a big reason they missed the playoffs this season. At one point this season the Cleveland Browns ranked 31st in defensive efficiency. That should never happen to a Myles Garrett-led defense.

It was something different each game for Cleveland as their secondary was caught sleeping multiple times leading to TDs. The Cleveland Run Defense was second to last in the NFL as well. According to ESPN.com. Cleveland is now searching for a new defensive coordinator at the time of this being written. They want to find one before the head coaches are hired to get first dibs on a DC.

Browns Linked To Big names

Some of the names being thrown around for the Browns are the likes of The Steelers’ inside linebacker coach, Brian Flores. Another name rumored is The Patriots’ linebacker coach Jerod Mayo. As well as the Seahawks’ associate head coach Sean Desai. Many fans think highly of Brian Flores and he seems to be the main target for the Cleveland Browns.

A new Dc will not solve all of the Cleveland Browns’ problems. It is certainly a great start though. With Cleveland’s offensive power fairly high and Watson getting his groove back, it is time to start to fix the coaching problems. There are also plenty of free agents that will be able to help the Browns out in some big ways.

The Cleveland Browns could be a very scary team in the NFL if they could just get their act together and play football. It will be very interesting to see what other changes are made this offseason as the playoffs are about to kick off into full swing. Stay tuned for more updates and news!
