Cleveland Browns: Jadeveon Clowney Linked To Division Rival

A few weeks before the Cleveland Browns head to training camp, former Brown’s DE Jadeveon Clowney is still without a team. After a messy breakup with the Browns Clowney is linked to one of their biggest rivals. Clowney has been upset with his role in Cleveland for years as he was always in the shadow of Myles Garrett. The most surprising thing about this situation is Clownye’s rumored choice of teams.

Where is Clowney Landing?

According to SportsIllustrated.com, Jadeveon Clowney has been linked to the Pittsburgh Steelers as well as the Washington Commanders. The case for the Steelers is to simply improve their depth. Clowney would provide them with options, especially with their sub-packages. Clowney is a solid run defender despite being smaller than their other base ends. That would give them some more athleticism and range for both run and pass rush.

The problems Clowney had with the Cleveland Browns could be another key factor in why these two parties may be interested in each other. The hate between the Browns and the Steelers is something we can not deny in a potential Clowney signing. The Browns and Steelers rivalry goes back many years. Most recently the Browns beat the Steelers in the 2020 playoffs. That would be Ben Roethlisberger’s last game before he retired. It was also the last playoff game played in the arena called Heinz Field.

Steelers Head Coach Mike Tomlin has had success with players with attitude issues before. The most notable being Antonio Brown. Brown was mostly functional under Tomlin and then lost it as soon as he left. Jadeveon Clowney seems like a bad fit for the Steelers. Pittsburgh wants players that play together as a team. Clowney would have to be on his best behavior if he actually wants to play there.

The Browns Are Over It

The Cleveland Browns have completely moved on from Clowney though. In fact, they have already found his replacement in Za’darius Smith. Smith is bigger and has better career numbers than Clowney. Better yet he actually wants to be in Cleveland as he came via free agency.

It will be very interesting to see where Clowney will actually end up. Whether it is the Steelers or the Commanders The Browns are over him and the drama. Cleveland’s one goal is to focus up and win a championship in the very near future. With Deshaun Watson returning to full power and all the great singing they made this off-season Cleveland’s window is officially open. Will they be able to do what this franchise has never done before?
