The owner of the Cleveland Browns, Jimmy Haslam, has finally opened up regarding the infamous Deshaun Watson trade from a few seasons back. However, it was slightly unexpected what the team’s long-time owner had to say. Jimmy finally admitted that the Watson trade was not a good idea. However, Haslam also stated that he would take the blame for the trade. Jimmy has asked fans not to blame GM Andrew Berry or head coach Kevin Stefanski.

According to TMZ, Jimmy Haslam has called the Deshaun Watson trade a “Swing and miss.” Jimmy had spoken to reporters about the 2022 trade and confirmed what every Browns fan has been thinking. That being that this trade has not worked out at all of course. However, what really seemed to shock the public was Haslam taking the blame. After a near-disaster in Myles Garrett requesting a trade, Cleveland may finally be heading in the right direction. Garret has signed an extension, and the draft is approaching quickly. As the regular season continues to march closer every day, the Browns will need a string of perfect decisions to get back to the playoffs. However, it is definitely possible.

Jimmy Haslam Opens Up Regarding the Deshaun Watson Trade

“We took a big swing and miss with Deshaun,” Haslam said, according to Mary Kay Cabot. “We thought we had the quarterback, we didn’t and we gave up a lot of draft picks to get him. So we’ve got to dig ourselves out of that hole.”

Just two seasons ago, under the control of QB Joe Flacco, the Cleveland Browns would comfortably secure a playoff spot. However, they would drop their first and only playoff game to the C.J. Stroud Houston Texans. That Browns team was severely injured and still never quit. Cleveland has the talent to make postseason noise. However, the issue is getting to the postseason. Moving on from Deshaun would get them closer than ever to the goal of a Super Bowl victory.

Getting Deshaun Watson as far away from Cleveland, Ohio, should be the top priority for the Browns. However, it is not that simple yet. Money will continue to be a roadblock when it comes to Watson. No team wants his contract, and it will cost too much just to release the former Clemson quarterback. Jimmy Haslam and Watson are still stuck with one another for a while. Despite what the team does this coming season.  However, a move is inevitable, and it is just a matter of time.
