Cleveland Cavaliers guard Donovan Mitchell is currently in second place for All-Star voting amongst Eastern Conference guards. Donovan Mitchell was stranded to the Cavaliers during the offseason in the biggest trade of the season so far. Mitchell is also having his best season yet averaging 28 points per game. Mitchell has made a big impact on this Cavs team and that can really be seen when he is out a game or two.

The Cleveland Cavaliers have been a pretty decent team so far this year. Donovan Mitchell has been a completely different beast though. Take his 71-point game against the Chicago Bulls for example. Yes, a 71-point game you heard that correctly. Mitchell is only the third player in 25 years to score 70 points or more in a game. The other two players are Devin Booker and the late great Kobe Bryant. Whenever your name is spoken with a legend like Kobe you know it’s special.

Mitchell Is On Track To Be A Starter

According to FaerTheSword.com, fan voting counts for 50% of the votes to pick NBA All-Stars. Staters will be announced next Thursday, Jan 26th. The Cleveland Cavaliers had two players represent their city in the last All-Star game which happened to be in Cleveland. Point guard Darius Garland and center Jarrett Allen got the honors last year as they were both reserves. Garland could be a reserve yet again but Mitchell is on track to be a starter.

It is very fitting for Donovan Mitchell to be a starter as the All-Star game is going to be in Utah this year. Mitchell still has love for his old city and franchise and they still have love for him. It would be a nice little story for Donovan Mitchell to make a big splash in the All-Star game at his old home court.

With Mitchell having his best season yet as a Cleveland Cavalier it only feels right that he would get to be a starter for the All-Star game. Mitchell is right behind the Brooklyn Nets’ star Kyrie Irving in the voting. Irving is also having a great year and is a big reason the Nets have moved up the standings the way they have.

Mitchell Will Represent The Land

With fan voting still open there is a slight chance that Mitchell could pass Irving and take first place for the guards. The 2023 NBA All-Star Game is scheduled for February 19th, in Salt Lake City Utah. The stage is almost set for the biggest names in basketball to go head-to-head. Will Donovan Mitchell take over his old stomping grounds? Only time will tell as he gets ready to represent the Cleveland Cavaliers.
