Cleveland Cavaliers' big man Tristan Thompson

Cleveland Cavaliers Veteran Big Man Suspended 25 Games Amid Personal Drama

The Cleveland Cavaliers have battled the injury bug early and often so far this season. First with Jarrett Allen and Donovan Mitchell. Most recently Darius Garland and Evan Mobley were also put on the injured list. Even through all that, the Cavs have battled back and are currently fourth in the Eastern Conference. Now, Cleveland faces yet another loss in their big man, Tristan Thompson. The NBA champ has been suspended for 25 games for violating the NBA’s anti-drug program

Tristan Thompson Suspended In Latest Controversy

Tristan Thompson tested positive for two banned substances and will serve his 25-game suspension without pay. The athlete known to fans as “Double T” tested positive for both Ibutamoren and SARM LGD-4033.

According to Sports Illustrated, Ibutamoren is known to stimulate one’s growth hormone and has been banned by the NBA. Meanwhile, LGD-4033 is a selective androgen receptor modulator and is prohibited by the World Anti-Doping Agency. Former NBA player Joakim Noah was also previously suspended 20 games for using LGD-4033.

This is the latest drama for Thompson, who has been in the headlines a number of times for his rocky relationship with reality star Khloe Kardashian. Sadly, Thompson’s latest move also impacts his entire team.

Evan Mobley is out with an injury, meaning that the Cleveland Cavaliers are without a reliable backup center due to Tristan Thompson’s decision. Although Jarrett Allen is playing the best basketball of his career, he still needs a backup to take some of the workload.  It is now very important for the Cavs to make a move at the NBA trade deadline.

Will The Cavaliers Make A Trade?

Thankfully, Darius Garland is set to return from his injury soon and Cleveland will be getting some reinforcements. However, Evan Mobley’s return still up in the air. Cleveland may be forced to get another big man fast.

It has been rumored that the Cavs would be active at the deadline, but it is more important than ever now. The team currently has the longest winning streak in the NBA, with eight straight wins and a record of 26-15.

Thompson’s suspension will be effective immediately as he is expected to lose just over $726,000. Thompson has played in 36 of the Cavaliers’ 41 games, averaging 3.8 points and 3.9 rebounds per game. This will be the first suspension of his 13-year NBA career.

Tristan Thompson’s latest scandal is just the latest in a long line of controversy for the athlete. However, some fans are just relieved that Khloe Kardashian was left out of the drama this time around.
