Cleveland Guardians: A Walk-off Win On The 4th Of July!

4th Of July baseball, the Cleveland Guardians took on the hottest team in the MLB last night on our country’s birthday and it was one to remember! The Guards snap the Atlanta Braves’ nine-game win streak behind a monster game by Amed Rosario. Rosario was able to dive in four of Cleveland’s six runs on three hits, The Guards ended up winning with a final score of 6-5 in 10 innings.

Amed On Fire!

Those three hits gave Amed 41 games with three or more hits since 2021. He has done this 10 times already this season and his big night got Shane Bieber off the hook from one of his worst starts this season. Unfortunately, after Amed Rosario was done swinging his bat there was still more drama to come. All-star closer Emmanual Clase blew his seventh save of the season after he gave up a lead-off homerun to Ozzie Albies. That would tie the game in the ninth.

The Cleveland Guardians did end up winning it in the 10th via a walk-off hit by David Fry of all people. Fry’s 2-out base hit was launched over the head of Eddie Rosario to score Amed Rosario after the Braves intentionally walked Gimenez to face Fry.  The two outs came from Gabriel Arias, who replaced Josh Bell and bunted into a double play.  With this win the Cleveland Guardians stay one game behind the American League Central-leading Minnesota Twins.

The Guards are still playing as inconsistent as ever despite this win. They are still below .500, just like every team in the ALC. Cleveland held first place for about a day before handing it right back to the Twins. If Cleveland can not figure it out after the all-star break this season might be lost. On the bright side, Cleveland is 8-6 in extra-inning games. They are also 17-19 in one-run games this year. They lead the big leagues in both those categories according to Cleveland.com

Take The Series!

The Guardians can enjoy upstaging the best team in Baseball for now but if something does not change they are in serious trouble. Cleveland has the opportunity to take the series tonight before moving on to the Royals. Will the Guards be able to get it done once again tonight? Or will they crumble under the weight of the powerful Atlanta offense? It will be very interesting to see what happens as we all wait for the first pitch tonight!
