The Cleveland Guardians have had a wealth of pitching troubles so far this season. From two starters being injured to some just flat-out not playing well enough. Finally, there is some good news for Cleveland with Aaron Civale set to return from his latest injury. With the right-hander returning on Friday and Triston MacKenzie possibly returning, CLE will have to make some tough choices.
With another bad loss last night in Baltimore Cal Quantrill may have made the decision a little less challenging. With Quantrill’s second bad outing in a row, he is making a strong case for himself to be sent down. Especially with the way Tanner Bibee has been pitching. According to MLB.com, Quantrill allowed eight runs in 4 1/3rd innings of work. Continuing his toughest patch of the season his last two starts Cal has given up 14 runs in 8 1/3rd innings pitched.
Quantrill On His Outing
Cal went on to say “You can’t just abandon your team. “We had to cover some innings so that we have a good chance to win tomorrow.” via a postgame interview. Quantrill did recover from a 5-run second to reach the fifth inning to at least save some of the bullpen.
Civale threw his very last rehab game and went into the 4th, while MacKenzie will throw one more and then return to the team while they face the Twins. There is very high hope that Civale can pick up where he left off before his injury as he was really rolling.
With the return of two important starters could this be where the Cleveland Guardians turn their season around? CLE sits three and a half games back from first place in the Central. With a record of 24-30, The Guardians need to focus on winning their series. They don’t need a big win streak but if they just win their series everything else will come along.
Can They Get It Done?
This is a big moment this season for the Guardians. As the weather gets hotter, so does the competition. If Cleveland can pull it together they could take first place and eventually win their division for the second year in a row. Now is the time for Cleveland to get it together. Will the Guardians be able to turn it around? Will Cal Quantrill be sent down? Only time will tell if the Guardians will be going back to the playoffs to make some more noise.
