The Cleveland Cavaliers are currently in possession of the 3rd overall pick in the 2021 NBA Draft. With the draft being in just two days there have been many rumors flying around about the Cavs GM Koby Altman possibly trading down in the draft. But as of late the trade rumors have settled down and it is now looking like the Cleveland Cavaliers are staying with their 3rd overall pick this year.
“Sources say general manager Koby Altman currently sees too much of a gap between [Evan] Mobley/[Jalen] Green and the other prospects, which means it’s unlikely he would willingly drop down a few spots and choose from a lesser pool of prospects, wrote Chris Fedor of Cleveland.com. Those trade calls started weeks ago. Altman’s listening. He has to. It’s his job. But it would take a ‘godfather’ offer,” according to Cleveland Cavaliers Nation.
It is pretty obvious that Cleveland is looking to draft an elite young talent this year to help speed up their rebuild, and everything points to the Cavs drafting center Evan Mobley. Mobley is a seven-footer with great athletic ability and a lot of potential. Cleveland hopes to pair him alongside their other big man Jarrett Allen in the starting lineup.

The Big Man out of UCS has also shown he can develop an outside shot-making 30 percent of his three-point attempts at the collegiate level. Mobley has also been getting a lot of elite comparisons as one reporter called him Chris Bosh on offense and Anthony Davis on the defensive end.
Those are some big names to be compared to when you have not even played your first game in the NBA yet. But for now, we will have to wait and see what Evan Mobley is capable of when he gets drafted to whatever team picks him and starts his rookie year.
The Cavaliers have also expressed interest in Jalen Green but it is very unlikely that he will be available at the three-spot as the Houston Rockets have been interested in him and hold the 2nd overall pick.
The Cavs still have a lot to do until this rebuild is over, but with the addition of Evan Mobley, it could completely turn around the losing habits of this young team and give them the boost to even make the playoffs in the next few years. All we can do is wait and see what happens on draft night and how it will affect the franchise but Cavs fans should be excited to see their young core in action this coming season.
