With the 2021 NBA draft right around the corner, the Cleveland Cavaliers currently hold the third overall pick. Now whether or not they keep it or not is a question for another time but let’s say they do keep it. It has been rumored that the Cavs are quite high on Evan Mobley so high in fact that they favor him over Jalen Green. Cleveland likes the idea of pairing Even Mobley with their young center in Jarret Allen along with their other young players such as Darius Garland.

According to Cavaliers Nation, “There were rumors earlier this year about the Cavaliers potentially moving on from Allen if Mobley was selected with the No. 3 pick, but a more recent report revealed that Cleveland believes Mobley can play at multiple positions in the frontcourt. If that’s the case, the team could justifiably keep both players.”

With that being said a front-court combination of Mobley and Allen could be deadly on the defensive end as well as the offensive end if Mobley can develop a mid-range game as good as Jarret Allen’s.

Cavs looking to improve with draft pick

Seeing how well Garland and Allen connected last season with only about half of the season working together should be more than enough to get The Cleveland Cavaliers’ front office and its fans excited about Evan Mobley as the 7-footer could thrive playing with Darius Garland. Mobley in his lone season at the University Of Southern California averaged 16 points per game, 8 rebounds per game, and 2 assists per game. He also showed some tremendous athletic ability in his 16 collegiate games which is something a lot of teams look at for a big man in the current NBA.

Either way, you look at it if Cleveland can not trade up for the Detroit Pistons’ number one overall pick they should seriously consider Evan Mobley as he could possibly help turn the franchise around.

This is a very important offseason for the Cleveland Cavaliers as they have the opportunity to make some big strides in their rebuilding process and it all starts on draft night.

If the Cavs can make a good draft selection especially since they have recently put young guard Collin Sexton on the trade market they could really turn things around in one swoop. Of course, Cleveland knows what they have with Sexton and have a very heavy price tag on the young player out of Alabama.
Sexton is the Cavs’ leading scorer and has a killer instinct on defense as well so it would not be surprising to see Sexton still with the team come opening night. But for now, all we can do is wait as the draft is at the end of this month so it will be a long interesting wait for the Cavs and their fans.
