The trade that sent Luka Doncic to the Los Angeles Lakers for Anthony Davis was a head-scratcher for sure. The Dallas Mavericks were just coming off a trip to the NBA Finals. Although they lost to the Boston Celtics, it was a huge step in the right direction for the organization. Until disaster would strike. Mavericks’ general manager, Nico Harrison, would do the unthinkable halfway through the 2024-25 season, and ship off Luka to L.A.

After the trade, there was not a lot of explaining done by the Mavs and Nico Harrison. However, since losing in the NBA’s play-in, the truths have begun to emerge. During his end-of-season press conference, Nico would say, “I did know that Luka was important to the fan base.” However, he would continue by explaining he did not realize how important Donicic really was. This sent fans into an even deeper rage as they called Nico “out of touch.” The collective Dallas fan base has gone in on Harrison for his insane comments during his press conference.

Mavs GM Nico Harrison Opens Up About the NBA Season’s Worst Trade

The Dallas Mavericks’ YouTube video for Nico’s press conference has been swarmed with angry fans calling for the GM to be fired.

I like how Nico talks as if AD getting injured was some unforeseen surprise,” said one.

You killed the Mavericks franchise,” wrote another.

Finally, one other fan stated, “He didn’t know how important Luka was to the fans??!!! The most out of touch crap I’ve heard.”

It seems as though the fans may never forgive Harrison or the rest of the front office for allowing this trade to happen.

While the Mavs are in Cancun for the summer, Luka Doncic and his Lake Show are battling it out in the Western Conference playoff bracket against the Minnesota Timberwolves. The series is currently tied at one game apiece and is shifting to Minnesota. Luka has been playing just as good basketball as he did in Dallas, and has also been rumored to be ready to sign an extension with his new team.

Nico Harrison and the rest of the Mavs’ front office will seemingly regret this move for the rest of their lives. NBA fans will never let them live this down as long as Luka still dominates the league. Can the Lakers take it all the way to the top? Only time will tell for now, as the NBA playoffs are starting to really pop off.
