Damar Hamlin suffered an injury during Monday Night Football that left fans, media, and players stunned. The young Buffalo Bills safety was seen defending a play in which Tee Higgins was given the ball for the Cincinnati Bengals, per NPR. Hamlin and Higgins collide as Hamlin made the tackle. It appeared that Higgins helmet may have hit Hamlin’s chest, but the play appeared to be routine for the NFL. After the tackle, Hamlin quickly jumped back up and looked to be just fine. However, seconds later he was seen collapsing on the field.
The Buffalo Bills training staff immediately began to work on Damar Hamlin. The football player remained laying on the ground for about 10 minutes as the staff looked to be giving him CPR on the field. Players from the BIlls and the Bengals gathered around Hamlin looking visibly upset. Many were even in tears. Eventually, an ambulance was brought out onto the field and Hamlin was quickly transported to an Ohio hospital.
Damar Hamlin Injury Update: NFL Star In Critical Condition
As Hamlin was taken off the field in an ambulance, the Buffalo Bills gathered together for a group prayer before leaving the field. The game was then suspended. ABC News reports that Damar Hamlin is now in critical condition at the hospital as fans and fellow players are urging everyone to send prayers and well wishes to the NFL star.
“I’m told Damar Hamlin has a pulse, but is not breathing on his own. He is being transported to UC. Needed AED and CPR on the field,” Fox sports analyst Joe Danneman tweeted.
“Hamlin received immediate medical attention on the field by team and independent medical staff and local paramedics. He was then transported to a local hospital where he is in critical condition,” the NFL said in a statement. “Our thoughts are with Damar and the Buffalo Bills. We will provide more information as it becomes available. The NFL has been in constant communication with the NFL Players Association which is in agreement with postponing the game,” the league added.
Buffalo Bills speak out after Damar Hamlin’s injury
“The thoughts and prayers of all of Bills Mafia are supporting you, Damar,” the team tweeted. Other NFL stars also took to social media to share their thoughts on the situation. “The game is not important. Damar Hamlin’s life is important. Please be ok. Please,” JJ Watt wrote. “No one cares about this game at all anymore. Praying for Damar Hamlin the man, the son, the brother and the friend. What just happened was traumatic to so many but all that matters right now is that he STAYS WITH US,” Robert Griffin III stated.
Fans are now waiting for news about Damar Hamlin’s health following the terrifying incident.
