Danny Masterson wasn't apart of That 90s Show. Here's why.

Danny Masterson: The Reason Why Hyde Wasn’t In That 90s Show

Danny Masterson played one of the most beloved characters on That 70s Show. The actor portrayed the role of Steven Hyde on the fan-favorite series. Masterson starred alongside Ashton Kutcher, Mila Kunis, Topher Grace, Laura Prepon, Wilmer Valderrama, Kurtwood Smith, and Debra Jo Rupp. So, when a spin-off titled That 90s Show was announced, fans began to wonder.

Now that the spin-off has been released, fans finally know the extent of Danny Masterson’s involvement in the project. During Season 1 of That 90s Show, all of Hyde’s high school friends made cameos. Eric and Donna were revealed to be married and living together in Chicago. Eric is a professor who teaches students about Star Wars. Meanwhile, Donna is an author who writes books.

Fans also got to see Michael Kelso and Jackie Burkhart. Kelso’s son, Jay, became close friends with Eric and Donna’s daughter, Leia. Kelso and Jackie also admitted that they were getting remarried. All the while, Fez is busy with his salon business. He’s also dating the mother of Leia’s friends Nate and Gwen. However, Hyde was nowhere to be found in Pointe Place, Wisconsin.

Danny Masterson didn’t make any cameos on That 90s Show, despite being an important That 70s Show character. In addition, Masterson wasn’t seen in any flashback scenes, nor was his character even mentioned during the 10 episodes. This is not surprising after the actor has been hit with multiple sexual assault allegations in recent years.

Masterson’s legal woes caused him to be written off his Netflix series The Ranch, which co-starred Ashton Kutcher and Sam Elliot, per People. Since that time, he’s been dealing with legal issues and court hearings. The actor is looking at serious prison time if convicted on the charges. However, he hasn’t forgotten his days as Hyde on That 70s Show.

In October 2021, Masterson took to Instagram to reveal his excitement about That 90s Show. “This is literally the dopest thing I’ve heard in a decade. So excited for @therealkurtwoodsmith and @debrajorupp two of the great humans and greatest actors on this planet. Can’t wait to watch and laugh. Same creators / writers / producers as 70s,” he captioned a photo of Smith and Rupp.

Although Hyde wasn’t mentioned on That 90s Show, Danny Masterson’s character can still be seen while watching That 70s Show.
