“Days of Our Lives” may be looking to bring Gabi Hernandez back to Salem sooner rather than later. After actress Camila Banus exited the role in November, a new Gabi may be headed to the soap opera in a recast.
Is Days of Our Lives recasting the role of Gabi Hernandez?
Soap Opera Spy reports that some “Days of Our Lives” casting calls hint that Gabi could be recast in the near future. It appears that the show is looking to cast an actress with similar physical attributes to Banus and the character of Gabi.
Banus announced her exit from the soap opera earlier this year, leaving fans disappointed. In November, the character of Gabi was written off the show after she was sent to prison for the murder of her former husband Li Shin (Remington Hoffman). Gabi proclaimed her innocence, but it wasn’t enough to keep her out of jail.
Sadly, this left Gabi’s husband, Stefan DiMera (Brandon Barash), on his own. The two had only just reunited and remarried after years apart. Now, they’re facing another huge hurdle in their relationship. That is unless Gabi returns to Salem soon in the form of a recast.
Fans speak out about a possible recast
Traditionally, fans are known for being skeptical of soap opera recasts. However, when it comes to losing fan-favorite characters, sometimes a recast is better than the alternative.
“There were better ways for Gabi to have a quick exit if it had to be that way,” one fan wrote on social media (via Soap Spoiler). “I love Days, but they’re being massively cheap with this very unpopular approach to such fan favorites. With so many out-of-work daytime actors, this shouldn’t be an option,” another wrote.
“I enjoyed CB in the role, but I also believe that nearly anyone can be recast successfully. I’ve watched soaps too long not to believe that. They should have done that here,” another person stated.
Recent DOOL exits have rocked viewers
Sadly, Camila Banus isn’t the only “Days of Our Lives” star to leave their beloved role behind as of late. Fans have watched several characters exit Salem recently. In addition to Gabi’s exit, Martha Madison has also departed Salem as Belle Black Brady.
Chloe Lane (Nadia Bjorlin), Philip Kiriakis (John-Paul Lavoisier), and Shawn Brady (Brandon Beemer) have also exited the sudser. Meanwhile, newer Salem resident Talia Hunter left town as well. In addition, Emily O’Brien’s character, Gwen Rizczech, left town. Although, O’Brien stepped into Jen Lilley’s role of Theresa Donovan in a controversial casting move.
“Days of Our Lives” has undergone many changes in recent months. Fans are holding out hope that things will stabilize soon and that some fan-favorite characters may be headed back to Salem in the future.
