“Days of Our Lives” might be heavy on the drama and supernatural spookiness. However, the show is also built on a long legacy of super couples. Pairings like John and Marlena, Bo and Hope, Chad and Abigail, Steve and Kayla, EJ and Sami, and others have delighted viewers over the years. Sadly, not all Salemites have had such great luck in love. In fact, many of them have terrible love lives.
Days of Our Lives fan-favorite Brady Black can’t seem to find the one
Over the years, fans have watched Brady Black (Eric Martsolf) grow up in Salem. As the son of John Black and Isabella Toscano, he’s a huge part of the soap opera’s storyline. Sadly, his love life has been less than iconic. Brady fell hard for Chloe Lane, and the two eventually got married. However, his drug use caused the pair to split.
Brady later moved on to date Nicole Walker (Arianne Zucker) on and off for years. He also had relationships with Melanie Jonas, Madison James, Eve Donovan, and Arianna Hernandez. Brady then fell for his father’s former lover, Kristen DiMera (Stacy Haiduk). The two welcomed a daughter together but could never seem to make their relationship work.
Brady also has a son with his former wife, Theresa Donovan (Jen Lilley/Emily O’Brien). Brady and Theresa seemed right for each other, but again, drama and betrayal tore them apart.
Rafe Hernandez can’t keep a relationship
Although Rafe Hernandez (Galen Gering) has become a fan-favorite character on “Days of Our Lives,” the writers haven’t been kind to the character when it comes to love. Rafe has been in love several times during his run in Salem. However, he’s been unable to make any relationship stick.
Rafe first came to town and fell head over heels for Sami Brady (Alison Sweeney). The two were a great match, and even got married. However, Sami’s love for EJ DiMera was far too great. The pair ultimately divorced and Sami went back to EJ. Rafe moved on to date Carrie Brady, Kate Roberts, and Jordan Ridgeway. He later found himself having feelings for Hope Brady (Kristian Alfonso).
Hope fell for Rafe during a time when she was still grieving the death of her husband Bo Brady (Peter Reckell). The two cared deeply for each other, but never seemed to have an overwhelming love or passion for each other. Rafe ended up cheating on Hope with Sami, and although Hope and Rafe went on to tie the knot, they couldn’t move past his infidelity. They divorced, but remained friends.
Rafe later moved on to Nicole Walker. The pair had a bit of a whirlwind relationship and got married after a short time together. Again, Rafe was heartbroken upon finding out that his wife was still in love with her ex-husband. This time Nicole couldn’t get over Eric Brady (Greg Vaughan). Rafe ended the relationship and he and Nicole went their separate ways.
Sami Brady always makes a mess of her love life
Sami Brady is one of the most iconic “Days of Our Lives” characters of all time. Fans can’t get enough of Sami and her sometimes wicked ways. Of course, Sami is known for her wild love life and the lengths she’ll go to get the man she wants. She’s been married too many times to count!
It all started when she was young, and she fell in love with her sister Carrie’s boyfriend, Austin Reed. Sami did everything she could to break them up, including drugging Austin and making him believe he had gotten her pregnant. Eventually, Sami’s secret was revealed, and Austin left her out in the cold.
Sami later fell in love with her best friend, Lucas Horton (Bryan Datillo), who was the true father of her child. Sami and Lucas had a very rocky relationship. However, their love for one another was epic. Sami later met and married EJ DiMera, who many fans believe has been the love of her life.
Sami has also been married to Rafe Hernandez and Brandon Walker. She was also engaged to Franco Kelly, but he was killed on their wedding day. Sami was accused of the murder and was nearly executed for the crime.
Nicole Walker has been so unlucky in love
Nicole Walker’s first Salem love was Eric Brady. “Days of Our Lives” viewers loved the pairing of the couple. However, throughout the decades, the couple never seemed to get their timing down. They did eventually get married after many tries, but Nicole’s infidelity tore them apart. Of course, Eric remains the love of Nicole’s life.
Through the years, Nicole has been in a lot of relationships. She’s married EJ DiMera several times. She’s also been wed to Lucas Horton, Victor Kiriakis, Rafe Hernandez, and Trent Robbins. In addition, she’s dated Brady Black, Colin Murphy, and Austin Reed. She also had flings with Xander Cook and Eric’s father, Roman Brady.
One major relationship for Nicole was with Daniel Jonas. Nicole and Daniel planned to get married when tragedy struck. Daniel was killed in a car accident caused by a drunk Eric Brady. Chloe Lane later helped Nicole welcome a daughter named Holly with Daniel as a surrogate.
Other Salemites who have been mostly unlucky in love include Chloe Lane, Philip Kiriakis, Eric Brady, and Gabi Hernandez. However, anything can happen in Salem. Soap fans know that new relationships are built every day and surprises could be just around the corner for these beloved characters.
