“Days of Our Lives” fans have watched so many twists and turns over the soap opera’s nearly 6-decade run. However, one of the biggest mysteries in Salem is still yet to be solved. Throughout the decades, John Black (Drake Hogestyn) has become someone who is beloved by fans. John is part of one of the soap opera’s most iconic super couples with Marlena Evans (Deidre Hall). He’s also a hero, who has saved the lives of his family and friends countless times. However, John’s history before he came to Salem is mostly unknown.
Throughout the years, John has searched for answers about his past. He has no idea who his biological family is. Although he once believed he was part of the Alamain family. Several years later, a mystery that sent several Salemites to Ireland unraveled. During this time, Stefano DiMera’s (Joseph Mascolo) early years were revealed through flashbacks. Stefano’s father, Santos, and Shawn Brady Sr.’s sister, Colleen, were revealed to have had an affair. John believed that his birth was the result of that affair. This would have made John a DiMera and Stefano’s half-brother.

However, not long after John believed that he was a DiMera, which was proven to be untrue. John was back to square one and had to come to terms with the fact that he may never know about his roots. Meanwhile, all that may change with the introduction of Dick Van Dyke’s character into Salem.
After so many years, “Days of Our Lives” seems to be setting up a storyline in which John and Van Dyke’s character may reunite as father and son (via Soaps). Viewers could finally learn the truth about John’s past, his parents, and why he never knew his real family. In addition, if Van Dyke’s character is proven to be John’s father, his children Brady, Belle, and Paul will also be getting a new biological grandfather.

John has searched for so long to find out any concrete information about his past. This storyline could prove to finally give John and fans answers to all of the burning questions they’ve been left with for all of these years. It could also open the door to some new and interesting relationships for John if he were able to meet any other members of his biological father.
