‘Days Of Our Lives’ Says Goodbye To Bo Brady: Why He Had To Die

“Days of Our Lives” fans were forced to say a final goodbye to an iconic character this week. The funeral of Bo Brady was held in Salem and boy, was it emotional! While Hope tried to keep it together, Shawn and Sierra broke down and Caroline made an amazing speech following by toasting Bo’s life and taking a shot.

So, why bring Bo Brady back to “Days of Our Lives” only to kill him off a few episodes later? Well, EP Ken Corday reveals why Bo had to die for the show, and Hope, to move forward.

“After discussions with Peter [Reckell], we knew [his return] was only going to be for a very limited time,” Corday told Soap Digest. “Thus, the decision was made amongst all of us that it was best to bring Bo and Hope’s relationship to closure. It wasn’t done cavalierly like ‘Oh, let’s kill Bo.’ But, Peter was being very straightforward that he wasn’t going to return to the show anytime soon, so we made the decision to really kill the character.”

“Days of Our Lives” fans were very shocked and upset to see Bo Brady leaving in such a way, but it did bring closure to where Bo had been and why he and Hope can no longer be together. Anything less just doesn’t feel right.

The End Of Bo And Hope

“If viewers are upset, I ask them to understand the outside factors that weigh here. I would love to have Peter on the show for years to come, but that’s not going to happen. [And] we’re not going to recast. So, it was clear what our route was. We need to move Hope on. And we can’t do that with Bo still alive. It’s impossible.”

Now that Bo is gone and Hope is seeking justice, many fans believe that she’ll eventually end up with Rafe Hernandez, who has been carrying a torch for her for quite some time now. Rafe and Hope are partners on the police force and would make a good fit in the future. However, Bo and Hope’s love story will always be a favorite among “Days of Our Lives” super fans.
