The “Dexter” revival will star some familiar faces. Actress Jennifer Carpenter will return to the series as Debra Morgan for its long-awaited Season 9, despite the fact that the character was killed off in the original series finale.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Carpenter will reunite with her ex-husband and former co-star Michael C. Hall when “Dexter” returns for the revival later this year. However, Showtime has allegedly declined to comment on Carpenter’s return.

The actress has actually spoken out in the past about returning the series for a possible revival. “[It would take] an extraordinary script many, many, many years from now,” she said. “I don’t know if that’s possible because people don’t come back from the dead,” Carpenter stated.

In addition to seeing Deb back on our television screens, fans will also get a glimpse of one of Dexter’s biggest rivals and most psychotic killers, The Trinity Killer, played by John Lithgow. Of course, Trinity was also killed during the original series. However, People Magazine reports that Lithgow has now cleared up the nature of his return for the revival.

Old faces are returning for ‘Dexter’ revival

“As all ‘Dexter’ fans know, we saw the end of the Trinity Killer, so that by definition means it’s a flashback,” Lithgow said. “It was just wonderful to rejoin that gang—including Michael and Jennifer Carpenter and [showrunner] Clyde Phillips,” the actor added.

When “Dexter” returns, fans can expect to see a large time jump. At the end of the original series, Dexter had faked his death and was living as a logger away from his home in Miami. Now, it seems that he’ll assume a new identity more than a decade following the finale.

“Ten years, or however many years, have passed by the time this will air, and the show will reflect that time passage. So far as the ending of the show, this will have no resemblance to how the original finale was. It’s a great opportunity to write a second finale,” Phillips previously said of the new season.

Currently, an official release date has yet to be confirmed. However, fans can expect to see Season 9 of “Dexter” sometime this fall on Showtime.
