According to Variety, the “Dirty Dancing” remake will be a made for TV movie starring Abigail Breslin and will air on ABC. The movie will be different than the recent live broadcast of “The Wiz Live” and upcoming “Grease Live,” and will be filmed ahead of broadcast.
ABC has reportedly been developing the “Dirty Dancing” remake for quite sometime and started casting the parts a year ago. While Abigail Breslin has been confirmed for the role of Baby, the part of Johnny Castle, previously played by the late Patrick Swayze, has yet to be filled.
If you’re not familiar with “Dirty Dancing,” the story centers on a young woman named Francis aka “Baby” Houseman who travels to the Catskills with her family for a summer vacation in the 1960’s. While there she meets and falls in love with dance instructor Johnny Castle.

Breslin The Right Choice For Baby?
Most recently Abigail Breslin has starred in the FOX comedy/horror series “Scream Queens” opposite Emma Roberts and Lea Michele. While many fans though Lea Michele would have been perfect for the role of Baby in “Dirty Dancing,” it was Breslin, who has been working in TV and film since she was very young. There is no word yet on when the made for TV movie will air on ABC.
