Eddie Money has tragically passed away at the age of 70. The “Two Tickets To Paradise” singer died on Friday morning following complications from cancer.

According to TMZ, Money’s family announced his death just months after he had found out that he had esophageal cancer.

“The Money Family regrets to announce that Eddie passed away peacefully early this morning. It is with heavy hearts that we say goodbye to our loving husband and father. We cannot imagine our world without him. We are grateful that he will live on forever through his music.”

Eddie was diagnosed with cancer last year after a routine checkup revealed the disease, which had spread to other parts of his body.  He had also been having other health issues such as heart valve surgery and a pneumonia back in July.

Eddie was born Edward Mahoney in Brooklyn. He was a NYPD police officer for two years before quitting and moving to L.A. to try his hand at music. His self-titled debut album went double-platinum and he had delighted fans with his hits such as “Take Me Home Tonight.”

The singer is survived by his wife of more than 30 years, Laurie, and five children, Zachary, Jessica, Joseph, Julian, and Desmond.

Fans have already taken to social media to share their sadness over Money’s death, recalling their favorite memories with his songs and wishing his family and friends love by offering their support and prayers during the difficult time.
