TMZ reports that Van Halen died on Tuesday at St. John’s Hospital in Santa Monica, California. He was surrounded by this family members, including his wife Janice, and his only song, Wolfgang Van Halen, whom he shares with is former wife Valerie Bertinelli. His brother and bandmate, Alex, was also said to be by his side at the time of his death.
Sources told the outlet that the past week had been a downward spiral for the musician, whose cancer had allegedly spread to his other organs, including his brain.
His son, Wolfgang, took to social media not long after his death to mourn the passing of his father.
“He was the best father I could ever ask for. Every moment I’ve shared with him on and off stage was a gift. My heart is broken and I don’t think I’ll ever fully recover from this loss. I love you so much, Pop,” Wolfgang Van Halen wrote.
