The Cavaliers rookie center and 7-footer Evan Mobley has had himself an amazing start to the 2021-22 NBA season and he is only getting better. So far Evan Mobley has only missed 4 games and the Cavaliers lost all 4 of those games proving that he is a very crucial part of the Cavaliers’ offense and defense.

Recently Evan Mobley was named the Kia NBA rookie of the month for October/November. At that time he was not 1st in the running for rookie of the year. The leader was that Raptor’s Harrison Barnes. Now Mobley has passed Barnes once again thanks to his very consistent play and he now sits back on the number one spot in the rookie of the year race.

It seems that every year there is a very similar tug of war between two top-picked rookies and this year it is Evan Mobley and Harrison Barnes. “I’m proud of him,” Mobley’s frontcourt mate said. “It’s deserved. I don’t know how Scottie Barnes from Toronto is doing, but I’m always gonna say Evan deserves that Rookie of the Year. He’s come in, got the month, and I’m gonna keep pushing him. I think he can do a lot better,” reports NBA.com.

Mobley has a very important trait that not all rookies have and that is he does not play like a rookie. Mobley sees that game like a league veteran. He always knows what pass to make or what shot to take and when to do it.

Evan Mobley’s current stats are 14.0 points per game, 8.1 rebounds per game, and 2.6 assists per game. The last time we saw the rookie of the year ladder his stats we 12 points per game, 8 rebounds per game, and 3 assists per game. As we see his stats have gone up and he has maintained his great play through the whole season so far.

As of right now, it seems very clear that Evan Mobley is going to win the rookie of the year award. But, anything could happen a different rookie could flip a switch and start making some noise. Someone could get hurt and reshape the ladder or someone could just go cold and fall in the race. It will be very interesting to see how the rest of the season goes as we are heading into 2022 and a lot more games left in the season.
