Game of Thrones may be nearing the end, but it looks like the franchise is far from over. HBO is developing four spin-offs of the popular series, and fans are over the moon about the surprising news.

According to TVLine, Game of Thrones fans will likely be seeing a lot more of George R.R. Martin’s world in the future. HBO is currently working on four different spin-offs for the series, which will end after Season 8 airs in 2018. A spokesperson for HBO announced the big news this week, saying that four different writers are working on four different spin-off ideas, and are “exploring different time periods of George R.R. Martin’s vast and rich universe.” The spokesperson also confirmed that no timetable has been set for the projects, and that the network will evaluate them when the scripts are finished.

Meanwhile, Game of Thrones showrunners, Dan Weiss and David Benioff had said that they would not be involved with any possible spin-offs of the show, but are already attached to the new projects.

“[Dan and David] continue to work on finishing up the seventh season and are already in the midst of writing and preparing for the eighth and final season. We have kept them up to date on our plans and they will be attached, along with Martin, as executive producers on all projects. We will support them as they take a much deserved break from writing about Westeros once the final season is complete.”

Game of Thrones fans are already imagining the possibilities of what the spin-offs could be in their minds, as there is so much that could be done with the story. There is no word whether the spin-offs with be prequels or sequels, but fans are thrilled by the news. This will mark the first time that the network has made a spin-off of one of its shows.
