Gilmore Girls fans have been begging for a Season 2 of A Year In The Life ever since the revival series debuted on Netflix in the fall of 2016. Now, there is hope that they may get their wish.
The show’s creator, Amy Sherman-Palladino, recently opened up about writing and filming more episodes of the revival. Amy revealed that she and her writing partner/husband, Daniel Palladino, always think of new storylines that would work for Lorelei and Rory Gilmore. However, the timing is the only thing holding it back.
“The great thing about families is there is always story to tell,” Amy revealed via TVLine, adding that getting the gang back together proves to be a challenge with everyone’s busy schedules.
Currently Sherman-Palladino is getting ready to start Season 4 of The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel, while members of the cast are also busy with other TV projects.
“There’s no [obstacle] behind it except for lives and people doing [other] things. [A Year in the Life] was one of those kismet moments where we were kind of all looking at each other and going, ‘Well, let’s take a couple of months and hang out together and remind each other why we drove each other crazy.’ And it was a wonderful experience. I really do believe that if the time is right and the girls are where they need to be in their lives [it could happen].”
“Lauren [Graham] is in two series right now,” Sherman-Palladino stated, referring to Zoey’s Extraordinary Playlist on NBC and the upcoming Mighty Ducks series on Disney+. “And Alexis [Bledel] is in Handmaid’s Tale. They all have things… But if that [kismet] moment presents itself again [we’d do it] in a hot second.
Fans may remember that during A Year In The Life a lot of big things were revealed. Rory was a 30-something who was struggling to find her footing in life. She ended up moving home and taking over the Stars Hollow newspaper.
She also had a boyfriend, whom was very forgettable. Literally, she forgot about him at every turn until they finally broke up. In addition to forgetting her boyfriend, she also cheated on him with her ex-boyfriend, Logan Hunstberger, who was also in a serious relationship. Rory also had a one night stand while researching a story in NYC.
By the end of the final episode, Rory found herself celebrating the long-awaited marriage of her mother, Lorelai and her new step-dad, Luke. The final scene depicted Rory telling her mother that she was pregnant before cutting to a black screen.
There was no info about who the father of the baby was, or what she planned to do about the pregnancy.
