“Goonies” actress Mary Ellen Trainer, who played mom Mrs. Walsh on the hit film “The Goonies” has died. Trainer died at her Montecito, California home on May 20. Coincidentally the “Goonies” film is currently celebrating its’ 30th anniversary.

Mary Ellen Trainer’s death was confirmed on Monday by Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy. Best known for her reoccurring role as Stephanie Woods in all four of the “Lethal Weapon” film and as the mom, Mrs. Walsh on the cult classic film “The Goonies.”

Trainer married writer and director Robert Zemeckis in 1980, appearing in several of his films, including “Back to the Future Part II,” “Death Becomes Her” and “Forrest Gump.” The two divorced in 2000. She made her big screen debut in the 1984 hit “Romancing the Stone,” playing the kidnapped sister of Kathleen Turner’s character. Her other early roles include parts in “The Monster Squad,” “Die Hard” and “Scrooged.”

Mary Ellen Trainer would go on to roles in 1994’s “Little Giants,” 1995’s “Congo” and the 2003 Jamie Lee Curtis-Lindsay Lohan remake of “Freaky Friday.”

Mary Ellen Trainer known not only for her incredible acting abilities, but also for her charitable heart and humanitarian causes. She generously supported dozens of causes, from education and disaster relief to cancer research and safe water for developing countries.

Trainer is survived by her son, Alex, as well as her mother Jane, and her siblings Ned, Jack, Barbara and Carolyn. A memorial service will be held on June 19 at 11 a.m. at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel, 1300 E. Valley Road, Montecito, CA. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Teddy Bear Cancer Foundation and Wounded Warriors.
