Earlier this year it was announced that Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic (also known as KOTOR) was getting a complete remake. Fans were overjoyed with the news as most played the original growing up and now they can relive it as an adult and with better graphics.
Recently it was announced that KOTOR was in serious trouble, so serious that the game had to be delayed indefinitely. To follow up on that Embracer, a parent company of Aspyr announced that one of its games AAA projects was going to be moved to another studio within the group.
“Embracer states the reason for its decision to move this undisclosed game to a new studio is to ensure “the quality bar is where we need it to be for the title.” It goes on to state the company is “not expecting any material delays for the title based on this transition,” a contrast to the previous report if this game does indeed turn out to be the Star Wars Knights of the Old Republic remake. Back in May of this year, Embracer’s board members announced that Evil Dead: The Game and Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2 developer Saber Interactive had joined forces with Aspyr to assist with the Star Wars project. At this time, Embracer stated the game was a “massive product” and one it knew Aspyr would need help with.” according to Euro Gamer.net.
What does it mean for the Star Wars game?
With KOTOR switching studios there is no telling how long the delay could be or when this game could potentially come out. While this delay could end up being a good thing for the game to ensure it is a quality playthrough there is always the opportunity that this delay could kill the game altogether especially with it switching studios which is never a good sign for a game.
Meanwhile, Embracer has stated they have multiple AAA games in development one the most noticeable being the Saints Row reboot. They have also stated that they have a lot of announcements for Gamescom.
What is to come?
So hopefully, we hear more about these other games in development there. The delay of KOTOR could open up room for more games that are in development and maybe even some games that no one has heard of but for now, we will all just have to wait and see what happens. Hopefully, soon we will have more information about Knights of the Old Republic and other games alike but only time will tell.
