How I Met Your Father Season 2 officially debuted on Hulu and fans are already freaking out about what’s to come. The series, which follows a group of friends in New York City, is obviously a spin-off of the popular show How I Met Your Mother. During the first season, viewers watched Cobie Smulders return as Robin. Now, Barney Stinson (Neil Patrick Harris) is also back.
During the first episode of Season 2, Sophie’s chaotic love life is in the spotlight again. Following her breakup with Drew and her hook-up with Jesse, Sophie was a mess. Things had been wild for her in the span of just 24 hours and that’s when Ian returned. Viewers may remember that Ian was the man that Sophie met during the pilot episode. She thought that he could be a great love for her. Sadly, he was forced to leave NYC for work.
Why does Barney Stinson return in How I Met Your Father Season 2?
Ian’s return proved to be at the worst time. Sophie had just split with Drew and then slept with Jesse. However, when Jesse accidentally told Sophie that he loved her she freaked out. Sophie ended the quick romance, but soon discovered she’d made a mistake. When she went back to Jesse’s apartment she found him kissing his ex-girlfriend Meredith.
How I Met Your Father Season 2, Episode 1 picks up shortly after Ian’s return. Of course, Sophie is in no state to start a new romance and things blow up in her face. She explains her situation to Ian who is very understanding about it all. Meanwhile, Sophie tells her best friend Valentina that she thinks she hit rock bottom.
Skipping into the future with older Sophie, played by Kim Cattrall, she reveals that that wasn’t her rock bottom. Instead, she claims that her rock bottom came later that year. Fans then see a scene where Sophie is frantically trying to call her mother. When Sophie leaves her mom a voicemail she reveals that she thinks she could be dating her own father. Just then, Sophie’s car smacks into the back of the vehicle in front of her.
Barney’s presence will be explained in future episodes
When Sophia emerges from the car panicked, none other than Barney Stinson exits the vehicle. Of course, Barney is dressed in a suit and is looking great. “Dude,” is all he says. That’s all fans get for now, but older Sophie promises that she’ll explain Barney’s appearance in her life.
How I Met Your Mother fans were thrilled to see Barney during How I Met Your Father Season 2. Hopefully, the storyline offers some insight into Barney’s life as well.
